S.C. Sheriff's Lt. Accused Of Worker's Comp Fraud Violations

Lt. Mandy Henderson was taken into custody in Las Vegas on suspicion of misrepresenting an alleged injury.

SAN JOSE, CA -- In a twist that places law enforcement on the other side of the law, a Santa Clara County sheriff’s lieutenant was arrested by Las Vegas police on a warrant stemming from allegations of worker's compensation fraud, the county department announced Friday.

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office investigators discovered Henderson engaged in strenuous workouts while on work restriction due to an alleged injury. Investigators believed Lt. Mandy Henderson committed fraud by misrepresenting the extent of her injuries and resulted in insurance violations. Sheriff’s Office detectives had just completed a criminal investigation leading to a felony arrest warrant.

Henderson was booked into the Clark County Correctional Facility in Las Vegas, where she awaits transport back to Santa Clara County.

“The alleged actions of Mrs. Henderson do not represent the vast majority of deputies who perform their duties honestly and with integrity,” Sheriff Laurie Smith said. “The sheriff’s office has high expectations of every individual who has sworn an oath to uphold the law. If these allegations are true, it is a violation of the public’s trust, sullies the standards of our office and for that, Mrs. Henderson should be held accountable.”

Following standard protocol, in addition to the criminal investigation, the sheriff’s office is conducting an Internal Affairs investigation into the allegations.
