San Jose Jail Death: Inmate's Name Released

Stockton resident Roger Jones, 52, was pronounced dead around noon Monday.

SAN JOSE, CA — An inmate's name was released Thursday following his death Monday in the main jail in Santa Clara County, the medical examiner's office said.

Roger Jones, 52, of Stockton was pronounced dead just before noon after he was found unresponsive in his cell about 40 minutes earlier.
Deputies and jail medics performed CPR and used a defibrillator to try to save Jones's life. San Jose firefighters and medics also tried.

Sheriff's detectives, investigators with the district attorney's office and the medical examiner's office, among organizations have begun an investigation into the death.

Jones was booked into the jail on May 1.
