South Bay Man Arrested In Connection With Peninsula Carjacking: Cops
The driver was not injured, but at least two vehicles in the area sustained minor damage, police said.
SAN MATEO, CA — A South Bay carjacking suspect was arrested Monday morning after turning himself in, police said.
Randy Jay, 43 of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon among other charges, according to police.
Officers responding to a report of a hit-and-run at around 10:10 p.m. Saturday near Cypress Ave. and N. Humboldt St. found a female rideshare driver who said she jumped out of the vehicle after the suspect held a knife to her stomach.

The driver told police she was near Jay’s stated San Jose destination when he ordered at knifepoint to drive to San Mateo, police said.
“Ultimately, he instructed her to drive northbound on (Highway) 101 and exited in San Mateo,” police said.

Jay drove off after the driver jumped out of the vehicle, police said.

The suspect made a 9-1-1 call that was picked up by Mountain View police.
“The caller stated someone was trying to kill him but was laughing so it sounded as if he was joking,” police said.
“A preliminary investigation determined the male was likely Randy Jay, who fit the description given by the victim and witnesses.”
The vehicle was found about two hours later in Morgan Hill, police said.
At around 6:15 a.m. Monday a man identified as Ray flagged down a San Mateo police officer and told the officer “he was a bad person and needed to go to jail,” police said.
Jay was found to be in possession of Fentanyl and had returned to San Mateo in an unreported stolen vehicle out of Turlock, police said.
Jay admitted to the Saturday carjacking incident and the knife used was recovered, police said.
