Plane Crashes Into South Bay Neighborhood

The pilot of the small plane suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said.

SAN JOSE, CA — The pilot of a small plane that plummeted to the ground across the street from San Jose's Reid-Hillview Airport Friday evening sustained life-threatening injuries.

A San Jose Police Department spokesperson said late Friday night that the condition of the pilot, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment, was stabilized.

The plane crashed at approximately 7 p.m. near the intersection of Ocala Avenue and Karl Street in east San Jose, adjacent to the airport.

Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are responding to the crash scene to assist with the investigation.

Streets in the immediate area around the crash scene remain closed.
