Suspect In SJ Standoff Allegedly Assaulted Mother, Pulled Gun: PD

A four-hour standoff ensued between police and a San Jose man when his mother called police to report he allegedly hit her.

SAN JOSE, CA — A 32-year-old San Jose man was arrested following a more than four-hour standoff after he allegedly assaulted his mother and brandished a firearm at officers on Monday afternoon, according to San Jose police.

Police said the suspect, Anthony Muscarella, was taken into custody around 6:10 p.m., after his mother called police to report he had allegedly hit her at the residence in the 2200 block of Luz Avenue around 1:30 p.m.

According to police, when officers arrived, they found the mother outside the home and Muscarella came to the door with a gun and returned back inside the home.

Police said a perimeter was established around the apartment, and neighboring residences were evacuated as negotiations with Muscarella began.

Muscarella eventually surrendered without incident and has been booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of battery, resisting arrest, criminal threats and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
