Victim Who Died In San Jose Car Crash Identified

A 72-year-old man killed in a crash in South San Jose on Monday has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

SOUTH BAY, CA -- A 72-year-old man killed in a solo crash in South San Jose early Monday morning has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as Mohammad Ghanati, of San Jose.

As he was driving a gold 2000 Honda Accord east on Branham Lane just east of Meridian Avenue, Ghanati swerved into a grove of trees in the median, police said.

The passenger's side of the Honda hit a small tree, cutting through the entire passenger side of the car. The car then came to a rest in the westbound lanes of Branham, police said.

Ghanati was pronounced dead at a hospital the same day. His death marks the 17th fatal traffic fatality in San Jose in 2017.
