Carlsbad City Council Sworn Into Office Tuesday
An oath of office ceremony was scheduled for the council's Tuesday meeting.
CARLSBAD, CA — All current and incoming Carlsbad officials were expected to be sworn in Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Carlsbad City Hall, the city announced.
The San Diego County Registrar of Voters posted the official election results on Dec. 8, and the newly elected city officials include:
- Mayor Keith Blackburn
- Council Member, District 1 Melanie Burkholder
- Council Member, District 3 Priya Bhat-Patel
- City ClerkSherry Freisinger
- City TreasurerCraig J. Lindholm
Current Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall will open open the meeting, according to the agenda.

During the meeting, the current City Council will vote on the “consent” items, which will include the certification of the election, the city reported.

Newly elected city officials would then be sworn in, starting with the new City Clerk, who will then swear in the others.
"There will be a short break to switch the nameplates on the dais, after which the new City Council will take their seats and proceed with the meeting," a city spokesperson said.
In addition to congratulating the newly elected officials, Mayor Matt Hall and District 1 City Council Member Peder Norby will be recognized for their service.
Once the meeting is over, everyone will adjourn to the courtyard at City Hall for an informal reception.
The meeting and reception are open to the public.
