CARLSBAD, CA — A brush fire scorched 45 acres Thursday in the Eastern Carlsbad and is threatening homes near Rancho Santa Fe Road and San Elijo Road, according to CalFire.

The fire broke out around 3 p.m. and quickly spread as ground and air crews sought to contain it.

The blaze originated in a canyon behind the 7500 block of Camino Minero near Corte Claro and Paseo Encino off Rancho Santa Fe Road, according to CalFire.
