The following is from the City of Carlsbad Police Department's Facebook Page:
A cautionary tale about unattended property in our cars
On Saturday at around 6:45 p.m., we were patrolling the Carlsbad Premium Outlets. During the holiday season we enhance patrols at all of our malls. While on patrol, we conducted a traffic stop on 22-year-old Morgan Peterson of Redondo Beach. During the traffic stop we noticed property in Petersonβs car β¦ property that looked a lot like property reported stolen during a previous vehicle burglary at the outlet mall. On closer inspection it was indeed the stolen property. We arrested Peterson, retrieved the stolen property and took Peterson to jail. Peterson was on probation for other similar offenses. Please remember, vehicle crime is a crime of opportunity and can usually be prevented. Please take a moment to review the following tips
β’ At homeβpark in your garage; remove personal property; lock your car; take your keys.
β’ Canβt park in a garageβpark as close to your residence as possible, under a light and remove all personal property.
β’ Always lock your car and take your keys.
β’ Out and aboutβpark as close to your destination as possible.
β’ Donβt leave valuables, packages or other personal items unattended in cars.Β
β’ Leave unnecessary valuables at home.
