Feed Dogs Fruits and Veggies Says Local Vet

Dr. Kathy Boehme of the Drake Center for Veterinary Care shows how and why to introduce fruits and vegetables to your dog.

While she recommends produce for dogs, she doesn’t recommend it for cats.

“They’re obligate carnivores,” she said.

Cat owners should learn more about feline nutrition on catinfo.org, she said, adding that cats don’t drink much water and get it largely from their food.

“We lost a lot of cats to chronic kidney disease and I would really love to see people feeding more canned food to cats,” she said.
