Gas Prices Rise for the Fourth Straight Day; Average Price Tops $4 a Gallon

San Diego is one of 11 regions in California with an average price of $4 a gallon or more.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County increased 1.7 cents Saturday to $4.01, the first time since Aug. 15, 2008, that prices have surpassed the $4 mark.

According to figures from the AAA and Oil Information Service, the price is 3.3 cents higher than a week ago, 29.2 cents higher than last month and 89.5 cents higher than this time last year.   

The average price has risen four consecutive days after being unchanged for three consecutive days. The daily increase is the largest since a 1.7-cent increase March 6. The record high was set on June 19, 2008, when it reached $4.63, 62 cents less than Saturday's average price.

The average price is also more than $4 in 10 other regions of the state: Bakersfield, Los Angeles-Long Beach, Oakland, Orange County, San Francisco, San Jose, San Luis Obispo-Atascadero-Paso Robles, Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc, Santa Rosa and Ventura.
