Ice Skating Rink Approved for Carlsbad
The indoor facility for hockey and skating would likely open in June 2014.

According to a report in the U-T, the company that runs IceTown Riverside was approved by the Carlsbad Planning Commission to open a similar indoor skating rink on Cosmos Court near El Camino Real.
"Matt Dunaev, who has operated IceTown Riverside since 1996, said steadily growing local interest in hockey and skating means there is more than enough demand in the county for another rink, especially in coastal North County. He and his partners spent more than two years searching for the right location and recently settled on a former technology repair warehouse east of Interstate 5 near Palomar Airport," wrote the U-T.
The other closest rinks are in La Jolla and Escondido. The new facility is expected to open in June 2014 after a $7-8 million renovation of the 31,000 square-foot warehouse.

It will include a "rink surrounded by tempered glass, changing rooms, classrooms, a full-service pro shop and a snack bar. The rink will have about 30 full-time employees, plus many coaches and referees that will work there occasionally," added the U-T.
