Letter to the Editor: Petition to Lower Class Sizes at CUSD
Carlsbad Unified School District parents upset with class sizes of more than 30 students are hoping you sign their online petition to get the district to restrict class sizes.

The following is a Letter to the Editor
Carlsbad Unified School District is failing to provide the basics of its own Mission statement: to offer our children a world-class educational system. Our district has one of the highest classroom sizes in San Diego county. 30+ children in each classroom creates a challenging learning environment. Some classrooms have 35+ children. Studies continually prove that lower class sizes result in a better education for the children, higher test scores, and continued success throughout the entire educational spectrum. Our classrooms are impacted, our teachers are overwhelmed, and our children's needs are falling through the cracks. Teachers can only do so much, and managing the educational needs of 30+ students is a difficult task. The current budget will allow for implementation of Class Size Reduction, and we expect our district to put our children's needs first. It's time to implement Class Size Reduction. Salary reductions for our teachers is unacceptable. Do the right thing, Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees.
Carlsbad, we urge you to sign this petition. Our students deserve much better than overcrowded classrooms!
