Carlsbad Eatery Named Among 'Most Beautiful New Restaurants' In America (patch.com) — Carlsbad diners have a new point of pride as Lilo, a chef’s counter tasting-menu spot that opened in April, was ranked the fourth most beautiful new restaurant in America by Robb Report. The Carlsbad restaurant also earned a Michelin star and a spot on The New York Times list of the 50 best restaurants in the country, highlighting its growing national reputation.
   

2. Housing, homelessness issues to watch in North County (inewsource.org) — Carlsbad is ramping up its homelessness response in early 2026, partnering with Oceanside on a major encampment cleanup and outreach effort along State Route 78 and Buena Vista Creek that has already permanently housed more than 60 people. At the same time, residents will see tighter rules on vehicle camping, looming federal housing cuts, and shifting regional projects that could affect affordability and visible homelessness across North County.
   

3. Carlsbad declares emergency over storm drain damage near coastal bluffs (thecoastnews.com) — Carlsbad has declared a local emergency to fast-track repairs to a storm-damaged storm drain near the coastal bluffs by Carlsbad Boulevard and Solamar Drive, and people are asked to avoid the area. Work is expected to start next week, with a widened temporary walkway and clear signage guiding pedestrians until the City Council reviews the emergency on Jan. 13.
   

4. Carlsbad says Monroe Street Pool renovations remain on schedule (thecoastnews.com) — Carlsbad’s Monroe Street Pool renovation is on track to reopen in late summer 2026, bringing a larger pool, more deck space, and upgraded facilities for local swimmers. While construction continues, city programs have shifted to Alga Norte Aquatic Center, ensuring residents still have access to public swim and recreation options.
   

5. Carlsbad woman shares cervical cancer journey ahead of awareness month (cbs8.com) — A Carlsbad woman is sharing her stage 3 cervical cancer journey to urge neighbors to stay on top of Pap smears and HPV prevention as awareness month begins. From subtle symptoms to intensive treatment at Scripps, her story underscores early detection, vaccination, and advocating for your own health. She’s now two years cancer-free and determined to help others.
