Teen Killed In Mysterious San Diego County Mass Shooting Identified
A 19-year-old boy was one of four teens rushed to the hospital in Escondido with bullet wounds.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities on Tuesday publicly identified a teenager killed in a mass shooting Saturday in Vista that left three other teens fighting for their lives.
According to the San Diego Sheriff's Office, 19-year-old Antonio Junior Calderon Mendiola was one of four teens rushed to the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido with bullet wounds in the early morning hours Saturday.
Not long after arriving at the hospital, Mendiola died. The Medical Examiner's Office determined the preliminary results for the cause of death to be a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was a homicide, according to the sheriff's department.

"Three other victims were also shot. A 17-year-old male juvenile and 18-year-old male are still in the Intensive Care Unit," said sheriff's Lt. Michael Krugh. "A 16-year-old male juvenile is still hospitalized but in stable condition."
According to investigators, the shooting is believed to have occurred in the area of Civic Center Drive in Vista shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Someone called 911 about the shooting shortly before the wounded teens arrived at the hospital.

"Sheriff's homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the circumstances and motivation behind this death," Krugh said. "The investigation is ongoing, and no suspect has been identified."
