Yard House To Open At Carlsbad Mall As Part Of Major Overhaul

CARLSBAD, CA -- As North County residents enjoy the renovation of the Shoppes at Carlsbad, the mall will welcome a long-anticipated tenant this month. The Yard House, a favorite American eatery that offers nearly 200 different beers, will open next Monday.

The restaurant is one of many new businesses to join the decades-old, two-story Carlsbad mall as it undergoes a stunning overhaul.

Ben Benzon, general manager of the Carlsbad Yard House, said the new location will offer patrons the same, popular food menu the company is known for. It will also offer more than 100 beers on tap, including San Diego County-brewed favorites such as Green Flash Remix, Novo Brazil Berlin's Passion and Societe The Apprentice.

"North County needs something like Yard House," said Benzon, who has been with the company for 11 years. "It's a place to have a great experience, eat some fantastic food and have some awesome, local beers."

It's not just about the food and beer. Benzon said the restaurant's setting will feature artwork by local artists. The company also focuses on giving back to the local community, he said.

"We've donated $2,000 to Feeding San Diego since this location has opened," Benzon said. "We're also planning to donate alcohol sales (from a private event this week) to the charity."

But, Yard House is just one addition The Shoppes at Carlsbad has seen in recent months. The mall, which opened in 1969, was acquired by Rouse Properties in November 2015 and has since undergone a major renovation.

Most recently, shoppers saw the addition of stores such as Zara, Francesa’s, PANDORA and H&M. Restaurants such as Islands and Cheesecake Factory have also opened.

The Shoppes is also hoping to attract North County's youngest patrons. It opened an ocean-themed children’s play area, complete with an aquarium.

By year's end, Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop and Graced by Grit will open. In 2018, Wokcano, Texas de Brazil, Breakfast Republic, Nectar and Grubby’s Poke Fish Market will join the mall. More tenants will be announced in coming months, said a spokesperson with Rouse Properties.
