4 People Rescued From Burning Apartment Building
Firefighters from Alameda County Fire Department responded to a fire in Cherryland, Wednesday, Aug. 31 that displaced a family of four.

CHERRYLAND, CA — Firefighters from Alameda County Fire Department responded to an apartment fire Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Upon their arrival to the apartment building — located on Meekland Avenue in Cherryland — firefighters found a four-unit apartment complex with flames and smoke clearly visible, according to a social media posting by the department.
The post indicated the point of origin for the blaze was one of the bottom floor units.

“Fire spread quickly to the unit directly above,” Alameda County Fire Department said on the Facebook post.
Firefighters rescued a family a four who were unable to escape from the unit as the exit staircase was blocked by fire, the agency said.

While their unit was not damaged, the family was displaced due to the condition of the building following the 2-alarm blaze, the social media posting reported.
No injuries were reported in the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, fire officials said.
