Council Member Mark Salinas Will Be Hayward’s Next Mayor

Salinas ran unopposed on the ballot which will also determine the next two council members to sit on the dais.

HAYWARD, CA — City Council Member Mark Salinas will become Hayward’s next mayor while eight candidates await final vote tallies to learn who will win the two open seats on that council's dais.

Salina ran unopposed securing 100 percent of the 13,056 votes, according to the most recent numbers released by AC Vote, Alameda County's vote counting and reporting agency.

Julie Roche currently leads in the at-large race to secure two open city council seats with 6,290 votes (23.96 percent) followed by Dan Goldstein with 4,019 votes (15.31 percent), George Syrop with 3,698 (14.08 percent), Sherman Lewis with 3,525 (13.42 percent), Tom Ferreira with 2,732 (10.40 percent), Amal Issa with 2,590 (9.86 percent), Sunita Rupan with 1,855 (7.06 percent) and Michael Lema with 1,548 (5.90 percent).

The top two vote-getters will secure a place on the dais.

AC vote has been posting “unofficial results” since the election, so the count as reported has not been finalized with votes still being counted. The next update is expected Friday, Nov. 18.
