A water main break affected nearly 50 East Bay Municipal Utility District customers in Castro Valley for about six hours Thursday morning, a utility spokeswoman said.

The break was reported at 1:32 a.m. on a 6-inch cast-iron main in the 19300 block of Stanton Avenue, EBMUD spokeswoman Nelsy Rodriguez said.

The break affected water service for 47 customers, Rodriguez said. Crews repaired the main and were in the process of restoring service as of shortly after 7:30 a.m., she said.
