Hayward Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Shooting Of Landlord

The suspect has been booked into Santa Rita Jail.

HAYWARD, CA — A 68-year-old man was shot to death Sunday morning near the 500 block of Ramos Avenue, marking Hayward’s first homicide of 2025, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of the shooting at 9:12 a.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

His identity has not yet been released.

Detectives identified 43-year-old Larry Jose Lopez as the suspect. He was taken into custody later that day and booked at Santa Rita Jail on a murder charge.

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the killing.
