Homeowner Tries To Stop Car Thieves, Shot At By Suspects: Police

ALAMEDA COUNTY — A homeowner who confronted two criminals as they tried to steal a vehicle early Monday was shot at by the suspects, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office reports. The victim was not injured, but several bullets pierced the home and lodged in interior walls.

The suspects fled in a dark colored vehicle. No arrests have been announced.

The attempted vehicle theft happened at 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Via Manzanas in San Lorenzo.

The sheriff's office issued a public safety advisory on dealing with car thieves, "We want to remind you of the importance of prioritizing your safety and that of your loved ones. Armed suspects usually perpetrate this type of crime. Safety should be your priority if you become aware of someone attempting to steal your vehicle from your driveway or the street in front of your home."

Tips include not confronting suspects, memorizing information about the suspects and their vehicle, and to call 911 to report crimes in progress. See the full advisory below.
