5 Earthquakes Shake Bay Area Thursday

HAYWARD, CA — Five earthquakes shook the Bay Area on Thursday.
The first four struck just over a mile east of Hayward, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, beginning with a 2.7-magnitude quake that hit just after 5 a.m.
Two more struck right before noon, with a 3.4-magnitude quake hitting at 11:52 a.m. and a 3.2-magnitude quake striking at 11:54 a.m.

The fourth, a 3.7-magnitude quake, hit just before 2 p.m.
Around 4:45 p.m., a 2.5-magnitude quake struck about three miles west of Pleasant Hill.

Earthquakes with a magnitude around 3.0 are considered minor and are typically felt by many but rarely cause damage.
People reported feeling the quakes across the Bay Area, from Brentwood to San Francisco, according to the USGS. Many took to social media to confirm that what they felt was an earthquake.
"2 earthquakes in a span of 5 minutes is crazy in the bay area," one X user remarked.
