Suspect Found Dead In Car; I-580 Reopens
A police chase that began with a murder in Pleasanton ended with the suspect committing suicide on I-580, according to authorities.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A suspect was found dead inside a car on I-580 following a police chase with the Pleasanton Police Department. The suspect reportedly shot themselves.
The Pleasanton Police Department says that a woman was found inside a home on Saginaw Circle around 11:10 a.m. Thursday. She had been shot multiple times. The area was secured, the Pleasanton Police Department tweeted at 11:36 a.m.
Officers followed a suspect vehicle onto I-580 westbound until the car broke down on the freeway near Benedict Drive in San Leandro. Several other agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, San Leandro Police Department, and Alameda County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist.

A severe traffic alert was issued and I-580 was closed in both directions for roughly two hours as officers attempted to communicate with the suspect. When officers approached the vehicle, they found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Traffic has since reopened.
