Sushi Land Restaurant to Open In Cherryland

The restaurant will open at the former Lee's House Korean Restaurant on the corner of Mission Boulevard and Georgean Street.

A sushi oasis is in the works of opening sometime next week along Mission Boulevard.

Painted in tropical hues of orange and green, Sushi Land, is the newest Japanese culinary delight to Cherryland — an area where sushi is not commonly found.

Owner Jerry Kim said he has spent the past four months renovating the small, shack-like restaurant from the ground up.

"Everything was remodeled," Kim said.

Modern fixtures and new appliances and furniture deck out the Japanese restaurant. The restaurant is housed at the former which closed down a few months ago.

Kim is a first-time restaurant owner, though he has spent the past four years working in Japanese restaurants in Vacaville, Union City and Pleasant Hill.

"The business here doesn't seem bad," Kim said about Cherryland. "I like this area."

He said he came up with the name Sushi Land because he felt the little restaurant was like an island, secluded in an area of used-car lots and similar businesses.

He hired sushi chef Max Ryu, who's been a master at creating delicious Japanese fare for the past nine years. Both hail from South Korea and said they're looking forward to serving the folks in Cherryland and the neighboring communities.
