Driver Rescued After Vehicle Flies Off San Mateo Bridge
There were no injuries in the single vehicle crash which occurred around 7 a.m. Saturday, March 25.
HAYWARD — A vehicle fell 15 feet down an embankment after plunging off the Hayward side of the San Mateo bridge Saturday, March 25, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to the CHP, the car, an older model Mercedes, landed in about a foot and a half of water around 7 a.m.
The driver was rescued and the vehicle was recovered from the water, the CHP said adding that two lanes of traffic were closed to aid in the response, with all lanes open by 8:35 a.m.
The driver was not injured in the incident, the CHP said.
