Calling All Local Bakers and Sweet Tooth Lovers, The Cerritos Cupcake Camp Needs You!

The Soroptimist International of Artesia-Cerritos invites all professional and amateur bakers and sweet tooth lovers to the 1st Annual Cerritos Cupcake Camp on Nov. 6.

Are you inspired to pull out your apron and mixing bowl after watching shows like “Cake Boss” or “Ultimate Cake Off”? Do you constantly feel inclined to get in touch with your inner Betty Crocker? Or perhaps these shows just make your sweet tooth quiver with delight?

If you answered yes to any of the above, the Cerritos Cupcake Camp is the place to be!

The Soroptimist International of Artesia-Cerritos will be hosting their 1st Annual Cerrritos Cupcake Camp on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at .

The event is FREE to attend, but event organizers are asking for a $10 donation which will allow you to try six different delicious cupcakes. Presale tickets are now available at located at 11420 South Street, in Cerritos, or you can contact Dr. Annalisa Fernando-Langit at cerritoscupcakecamp@gmail.com.

There will also be door and raffle prizes, a professional and amateur cupcake contest, a kid's cupcake decorating competition, music, and of course, a lot of fun to be had by all!

All the proceeds from the event will help support local charities, including: Su Casa Domestic Violence Shelter, Ronald McDonald House and the Community Family Guidance Center.

CALLING ALL BAKERS – PROS AND AMATEURS!

Event organizers are currently looking for both professional and amateur cupcake makers who can help make this charity event a success. All participating bakers will not only have the opportunity to advertise their company to the community but also have the chance to show off their amazing cupcakes by entering the cupcake contests. There will be separate contests for professionals and amateurs.

APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR BAKERS IS OCT. 29

The deadline for bakers to submit an application is Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011. (Please see the Patch image carousel to download an application. Or to have an application emailed to you, contact cerritoscupcakecamp@gmail.com).

BAKER REQUIREMENTS

Bakers must donate the following to participate:

  • For PROS: 150 cupcakes for shared baker table or 300 for own table.
  • For AMATEURS: 4 to 6 dozen.

Professional bakers need to arrive at the event at 11 a.m. Amateur bakers should arrive by noon.

THE CUPCAKE COMPETITION

All participating bakers have the opportunity to show off their amazing cupcakes by entering the cupcake contest. There will be separate competitions for professionals and amateurs.

The three contest categories include:

  • Best of Show: based on overall best flavor, texture, and design
  • Most Unique Ingredient: based on creativity, taste, and texture
  • Most Cerritos Inspired: capture the spirit of Cerritos in the flavor of the cupcake or through the design

The cupcake flavor entered in the contest does not need to be the same as the cupcakes for donation. Only one entry is allowed per baker per category. If entering the cupcake contest, baker must submit three cupcakes of each type for judging.

Contest Judges

The judges for the cupcake competitions include: Mayor Carol Chen from Cerritos, Mayor Victor Manalo from Artesia, Dr. Mary Sieu (Deputy Superintendent of the ), Michelle Nevarez ( secretary), and Sue Andrews (Carmenita Middle School secretary).
