Cerritos High Wind Symphony Tunes Up for Olympic Performance

Fundraising efforts are in full swing for the CHS Wind Symphony's trip to the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

Fresh from winter performances at New York's Carnegie Hall, the Wind Symphony is now .

A group of 55 symphony members led by Music Director Tim Trost and accompanied by 14 chaperones are scheduled to perform at concerts in Paris and London coordinated by World Projects. The London performances include events that are part of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The theme of the trip is "Spirit of Cerritos" -- anchored in two concepts, the first being The Olympic Spirit, and the second is The Spirit of St. Louis - Charles Lindbergh's aircraft in which he made his 1927 pioneering solo non-stop transatlantic crossing from New York to Paris.

The "Spirit of Cerritos" exemplifies the attributes of Excellence, Perseverance and Teamwork.

"We are excited that Cerritos High has been chosen to represent our community and nation at such a major international event like the Olympics," said Dons' principal Mrs. Janice Peterson.

"This is the most exciting opportunity that our students can ever ask for and we will rise to the occasion to deliver a world class musical performance,” added music director Tim Trost.

Cerritos High School is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year as part of the . The school already has a rich Olympic history with its Alumni Dr. Jimmy Kim winning the first American Gold medal in Taekwondo at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

, which will go toward the cost of travel and stay for the Wind Symphony members and the accompanying adults during the European trip.
