Cerritos Sears Spared from First Closure List; Three CA Locations to Shut Down

Sears Holdings on Thursday released a list of 79 stores nationwide that would closed as part of a major restructuring effort by the department store retailer -- spared from the first announcement of closures was the location at the .
Three California stores were included on the list: El Monte, Carmel Mountain Ranch and Clairemont in San Diego County. The company did not say when the stores would shut down.
The company announced Monday that roughly 100-120 Sears and Kmart outlets would close to help generate millions in cash. The other stores targeted for closure would be named "as they become available.''

Sears officials say the decision to shut down some of its locations was triggered by slow holiday sales and a poor market for big-ticket items. Despite offering popular brand names like Craftsman tools, Kenmore appliances and Lands End clothing, retail analysts have slammed the company for failing to update its stores in the face of stiff competition.
Sears has been a part of the Los Cerritos Center since 1972, according to the center's Marketing Manager, Megan Richardson.
