Investing in Yourself: Cerritos Welcomes Edward Jones

Individuals should "start early and create the habit and discipline of investing on a regular basis," says Edward Jones financial advisor Tho N. Ngo.

For Tho N. Ngo, a financial advisor who has been with Edward Jones since 2010, the decision to open her office in the city of Cerritos was an ideal choice because the investment firm's model aims to benefit "the serious, long-term investor."

"Cerritos is a great community-oriented city," she said. "The residents are actively involved in welfare of the city and it has a hometown vibe."

Ngo says unlike other full-service brokerage investment firms, Edward Jones offers a more personal experience, serving individuals and business owners -- not investment banks and corporations.

Free Speaking Engagements Offered

As one of Cerritos' newest businesses, Ngo said she is happy to offer advice and answer questions from locals through free speaking engagements.

"In addition, we try to live and work in the communities we serve. So, I'm available to speak at community organizations and events to address financial questions/concerns individuals have," Ngo said, adding that advisors are typically asked to speak at community organization gatherings, career workshops, PTA meetings, and small business group meetings.

Ngo hopes not only to help educate the community on the importance of financial planning but also to help individuals realize that investing in the future is an important process that everyone can and should take.

"Everyone is going to retire, so there is definitely a need to have your finances reviewed to make sure you are on track to retiring. Individuals can't rely solely on social security and pensions are being phased out," she said. "Many people think they don't have enough money to warrant having a financial advisor.  That's just the not the case."

Investing in Yourself

If she could only share one piece of advice to her clients, Ngo says individuals should "start early and create the habit and discipline of investing on a regular basis. Make it automatic. Consider it an expense that you are paying yourself first."
