2 People Dead, 12,000 Acres Burned In NorCal Fires; Low Containment
Authorities worked to contain two massive wildfires, Mill and Mountain Fires, in Northern California Sunday.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — Authorities battled two massive wildfires in Northern California Sunday, which collectively burned over 12,000 acres, killed two people and destroyed nearly 100 homes.
The Mill Fire burned 4,254 acres in the city of Weed in Siskiyou County by Sunday morning, according to Cal Fire. The fire was only 25 percent contained Sunday after breaking out around 12:49 p.m. on Friday.
Two people died in the Mill Fire, Siskiyou County Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue said, according to The Sacramento Bee. Additional details about the deaths were not immediately available.

The fire injured at least three people, burned at 100 structures and evacuated around 1,000 people, The Sacramento Bee reported.
The Mountain Fire burned 8460 acres just 10 miles away. The fire was only 10 percent contained Sunday evening after starting at 6:01 p.m. Friday, according to Cal Fire. The fire spread nearly 2,000 acres on Sunday alone. This fire evacuated another 332 people and threatened some 690 structures, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The cause of both fires was under investigation, CNN reported.
