Shippee Fire: Durham Fire Now 100% Contained

The blaze, one of several across California, burned more than 300 acres.

DURHAM, CA -- A fire that burned hundreds of acres near a small Northern California town was 100 percent contained as of Wednesday morning. Fire officials said crews reached containment on the blaze at 4:43 p.m. Tuesday, hours after it erupted.

The fire was sparked near Midway and Esquon roads, about four miles southwest of the town that's home to roughly 5,500 residents. It burned 347 acres, officials said.

The Shippee Fire was one just one of several to burn in California with the largest being the Pawnee Fire in Lake County. That fire burned 13,500 acres and was 25 percent contained as of Wednesday morning.

Elsewhere in the region, crews were also battling flames in Shasta, Tuolumne and Tehama counties in Northern California.

Thousands of residents were forced to evacuate as a result of the fires.
