City Of Claremont: Electronic Waste Disposal

The City currently contracts with Greenway Solid Waste & Recycling for curbside electronic waste (e-waste) collection services. The current agreement expires February 28, 2022 with no opportunity to extend. In January, the City requested proposals from qualified collection companies to continue the e-waste collection program. The proposals received proposed to charge residents $30-49 fixed fees per pickup, which is not a savings versus market rates. Due to substantial increases in proposed collection costs, the City Council recently rejected all proposals.

In an effort to continue to provide a convenient disposal option for e-waste, the City will incorporate electronic waste pickups as part of its Bulk Item Pickup Program. The City’s Sanitation Division collects three items/loads per year from single-family homes at no additional cost. Additional pickups after the three free loads are available for $33.78 per load. Multi-family and Commercial customers can also schedule bulky item pickups for $40.54 per load. Starting March 1, 2022, boxed e-waste will be accepted as part of this program. 

Residents that do not wish to use the Bulky Item Collection program can dispose of e-waste for free at an LA County Household Hazardous Waste Round Up. Upcoming events are listed at www.lacsd.org/hhw or by phone at 1-888-CLEAN LA. Residents may also contract with a local junk removal company at market rates.
