The Community Improvement Division would like to remind residents of the ordinance that requires front yards to be landscaped with a minimum of 50% live plant material. This requirement may be fulfilled by planting drought-tolerant plants, ground cover, trees, and shrubs that can withstand fluctuating weather and drought conditions. The remaining 50% must be covered with a permeable material such as decomposed granite, bark, mulch, or gravel. This type of material allows for less erosion and better groundwater retention. The Community Improvement Division enforces the ordinance to ensure the community stays beautiful and property values stay high. Rebates for turf removal and landscape transformations may be available through the Metropolitan Water District, in partnership with Golden State Water Company.
