The City of Claremont recently retained Mac Dad Builders, Inc. to expand Oak Park Cemetery.  The project footprint is just under one acre and will feature approximately 480 new in-ground grave sites, two new niche walls for cremated remains with an adjacent tranquil water feature, six new “family estates” or premium properties, an extended roadway to provide vehicular access to the new area, new fencing to screen off undeveloped cemetery property,  and new trees to provide a similar tree density to the historic cemetery.  Sales for the new area will be available in Summer 2022.

The expansion will be adjacent to Mills Avenue, in the northeast corner of the developed cemetery. The construction area is not adjacent to any homes, with undeveloped cemetery property providing a buffer between the expansion area and the closest neighbors. Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-February and continue through early August 2022.  The Cemetery will remain open during construction, as construction activities are limited to a small footprint.  Construction will be completed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  While some noise and truck traffic is anticipated as part of the project, the City will work the contractor to minimize impacts and will have an on-site inspector.
