La Verne Will Retain Its Retirement Gift Program: Report
La Verne's gift program was largely unknown by the public until it was mentioned in a letter from State Assemblyman Chris Holden's Office.

LA VERNE, CA — City officials unanimously voted to retain a retirement gift program that uses money from La Verne's general fund, according to the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
The program has been in place since 1991 and provided retiring employees with a gift for their years of service. The gifts had a $2,500 limit and varied from shadow boxes to vacations, the Daily Bulletin reported.
The program was mostly unknown to the public until California Assemblyman Chris Holden's office mentioned it in a July letter concerning the city's finances, the paper reported.
