3 Robbery Suspects Feast On Food Shops No More

ANTIOCH - Three suspects were arrested last week in connection with robberies at various sandwich and pizza shops across Antioch and Brentwood earlier this month, Antioch police said Wednesday.

Antioch and Brentwood police investigators arrested a 15-year-old Antioch resident on March 21 and on Friday arrested Jonathan Sokoya, 20, of Stockton, and Nicholas McBride, 21, of Antioch.

The arrests followed an investigation into a robbery spree that began on March 11 at 9:15 p.m. when two suspects robbed a Subway location in Brentwood while brandishing handguns, police said.

Shortly afterward, a Little Caesars Pizza at 4819 Lone Tree Way in Antioch was also robbed at gunpoint by a pair of suspects, police said.

Brentwood and Antioch police determined the cases were connected and began to investigate leads. Brentwood police obtained surveillance video depicting the suspects and the vehicle they used, police said.

On March 19 at 9:03 p.m., a lone firearm-wielding suspect matching the description of a suspect in the previous robberies robbed a Subway at 3020 Delta Fair Blvd. in Antioch, police said.

Detectives later developed information that led to the arrest of the Antioch teen. Authorities say when he was arrested on Auto Center Drive near Mahogany Way on March 21, a replica firearm was found in his possession. He was booked into the county's juvenile hall.

Before the other suspects were arrested, Antioch police responded to another robbery at 10:05 p.m. on March 23 at the Pizza Hut at 2713 Contra Loma Blvd.

One suspect had robbed the shop at gunpoint before fleeing. Police said he matched the description of a suspect in the previous cases.

Sokoya was later identified as the robbery suspect.

He was arrested in Stockton without incident and a replica firearm was found in his possession, police said. McBride, who was with Sokoya at the time of the arrest, was also arrested on suspicion of being the driver during some of the robberies.

Following the arrests, Antioch police detectives served a search warrant at Sokoya's Stockton residence and said they found evidence tying him to the robberies.

Detectives are still investigating whether the suspects were connected to any other robberies.

Both men have been booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
