Ample Apples in Abundance at the Farmers' Market

Apples are this week's featured product at the farmers' market. Here are some apple recipes to try. Share your own too!

Jane Austen once said that "good apple pies are a considerable part of our domestic happiness." And she may well have been right. After all, what would America be without the apple pie? But more importantly — what would the apple pie be without the apple?

There are more than 7,500 cultivated varieties of apples in existence, according to the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association, but only a handful are produced commercially.

This wonder fruit is thousands of years old and packed full of nutrients. A medium sized fresh apple provides the total antioxidant activity of 1500 milligrams of vitamin C, and is full of potassium and fiber.
