Cannabis Businesses In Concord: City Council, Planners To Discuss

CONCORD, CA — The Concord City Council and the city's Planning Commission will hold a joint study session Tuesday to discuss future medicinal cannabis storefront and non-storefront retail dispensary uses and "microbusinesses" in the city.

Primary planned topics of discussion are set to be testing and manufacturing regulations, as well as potential land-use regulations for various types of medical cannabis businesses. Adult recreational cannabis businesses are not being considered.

An August 2017 survey of Concord residents showed 68.7 percent support for medicinal cannabis storefront retail dispensaries; 64.9 percent support for medicinal cannabis storefront retail near the Police Department headquarters; 62.8 percent support for dispensaries in industrial areas; and
50.8 percent expressing concern about increased crime associated with retail cannabis storefront and delivery.

A city staff report has a tentative schedule of a Concord Community Town Hall online in June, and community workshops in August. The goal is for the City Council to make a final vote on regulations by January 2020.

Tuesday's meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the council chamber at City Hall, located at 1950 Parkside Drive.
