Clayton Valley Students Score Better Than District Average on Exit Exam
88 percent of 10th graders passed the math test and 87 percent passed the English-language arts test.

More Bay Area students passed the high school exit exam in 2011 than ever in the 12 years since the state created the test, according to results released Wednesday by the California Department of Education.
At , 88 percent of 10th grade students passed the math test and 87 percent passed the English-language arts test (results can be seen here). Students must pass the tests by 12th grade to graduate.
The scores were higher than the district, county and state averages. In the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, 81 percent passed the math and 82 percent passed the English test. In Contra Costa County, 84 percent passed both tests. In California, 83 percent passed the math and 82 percent passed the English.

“It is heartening to see that our students continue to learn and achieve despite the painful toll that budget cuts are taking on our schools,” said state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson. “The results of this year’s exit examination — and the progress schools are making to close the achievement gap — are yet another sign of the remarkable commitment that teachers, school employees, and administrators have to the students of California.”

- Of the 240 males who took the test, 89 percent passed the math and 83 percent passed the English.
- Of the 210 female test-takers, 87 percent passed the math and 92 percent passed the English.
- 92 percent of white students passed the math and english test.
- Of the 29 Asian students test-takers, 93 percent passed the math and 86 percent passed the English.
- Of the 18 black test-takers, 72 percent passed the math and 78 percent passed the English.
