Officers booked him into the Martinez jail and also alleged he carried a controlled substance, with bail set at $20,000. The case highlights an active holiday policing presence in Concord neighborhoods.
   

• Discrimination and Defamation Claim Stemming from Firing Based on Allegedly Racist Conduct Can Go Forward (reason.com) — A California appeals court has revived discrimination and defamation claims tied to workplace conflicts between two nurses who sometimes worked at John Muir’s Concord Medical Center. The ruling means a jury may now weigh whether the hospital treated the nurses differently and adequately investigated accusations of racism. While the case is statewide in scope, it directly involves a major Concord healthcare employer.
   

• Judge orders halt on ICE courthouse arrests in Northern California (ktvu.com) — Immigrants with cases at the Concord immigration court are now temporarily protected from being arrested by ICE when they come to court, under a new federal ruling covering the San Francisco region. The judge found that courthouse arrests in places including Concord violate due process and discourage people from attending hearings. The Trump administration plans to appeal, so the policy could still change next year.
