Comics Sketch-Fest Raises Cash for Domestic Violence Victims

Comic book fans and professionals have donated their creative talents to for an auction benefitting STAND! For Familes Free of Violence. Bids start at $15 and can be made in person at the store or on the Flying Colors Facebook page. The auction ends Sept. 17 at 5 p.m.

Mayor Ron Leone donated a drawing depicting Clark Kent's transformation into Superman. The drawing was auctioned twice, said Joe Field of Flying Colors Comics, since the first winner donated it back to the auction. The total it brought was $125. So far, Flying Colors Comics has raised nearly $1,600 for STAND. Field said he's hoping that more bids will be coming in for the remaining pieces, pictured above.

The sketch fest took place Sept. 8 and brought together customers of the store with a talent for drawing as well as professional comic book artists willing to lend a hand for a good cause.

"Putting together an event that is based on lots of people getting together to draw was a natural for our store," said Field in an email to Patch. "I'm happy that many others came out to support the event by winning the auctions for original comics art."

Field added that STAND! For Families Free of Violence "does good, important work, so any spotlight we could give them will hpefully lead to more donations to the organization."
