Driver Stopped On Freeway Killed In Contra Costa Crash: CHP
The driver died at the scene of the Bay Point crash, the California Highway Patrol said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — One person died and one person was hospitalized in a two-car crash early Thursday on state Highway 4 near Bay Point, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers with the CHP's Contra Costa Division responded shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday to the collision on eastbound SR-4 near San Marco Boulevard.
According to a statement about the fatal crash, the CHP's preliminary investigation indicated a Jeep Cherokee SUV was disabled from damages in an earlier collision and was stopped in the center divide and fast lane — with only the driver inside.

A Honda Pilot SUV, also carrying only a driver, was traveling eastbound on Highway 4 and crashed into the Jeep.
The Jeep driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. The driver's identity was expected to be released by the Contra Costa County Sheriff-Coroner's office once the person's next of kin were properly notified.

The Honda driver was taken to a hospital for what appeared to be minor injuries, the CHP said.
