Former Corrections Guard Charged With Lewd Acts Upon Children
A former Martinez California Department of Corrections guard was charged with committing lewd acts upon two young children.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A 44-year-old former correctional sergeant with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from Martinez was arraigned on multiple felony charges for "alleged lewd acts upon children," according to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office.
William Daniel Eberly was arraigned Thursday in Martinez on an eleven-count complaint that includes forcible lewd acts on a child under 14, and lewd acts on a child aged 14 or 15, according to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office.
Two victims, identified in court documents as Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2, will remain anonymous to protect their privacy.

The crimes happened between Nov. 1, 2020, and Dec. 12, 2024, in Contra Costa County, according to prosecutors. Eberly was employed as a correctional sergeant with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the time of his arrest, according to a statement from the district attorney's office.
Eberly pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment. The judge set bail at $1,025,000 and granted two criminal protective orders to protect the identity of the teens, as requested by the district attorney's office. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 3.
