📰 News we're reading

1. Sunvalley Mall jewelry store robbery Sunday morning (contracostaherald.com) — Concord police are investigating a Sunday morning smash-and-grab robbery at a Sunvalley Mall jewelry store, where suspects shattered display cases with hammers and fled in a waiting vehicle. No one was hurt, no shots were fired, and officers say there’s no ongoing threat, though a shaken shopper described a chaotic evacuation.

2. Series of Earthquakes Strike San Ramon Friday Night (contracosta.news) — A series of small earthquakes near San Ramon, including a magnitude 4.0, were strong enough to be felt in Concord and other parts of Contra Costa County. BART slowed trains systemwide for safety inspections, causing delays of up to 20 minutes. Residents may notice aftershocks continuing into early Saturday morning, though no major damage has been reported.

3. Prep roundup: Granada outlasts Fremont-Oakland, continues resurgence (mercurynews.com) — Ygnacio Valley High’s boys basketball team stormed back with an 18-0 fourth-quarter run to beat host McClymonds 67-62, a strong showing for the Concord program. The wider roundup highlights other East Bay high school games, but Ygnacio Valley’s comeback stands out for local fans.

4. So long, Brass Door: Restaurant beloved by East Bay movers and shakers to close (eastbaytimes.com) — A San Ramon landmark restaurant, the Brass Door, will close on Christmas Eve after a lease dispute, ending a 70-year run as a gathering spot for East Bay leaders and families. Among those hit hardest is Juan Chavez of Concord, who has worked there for 35 years and will lose his job along with the rest of the staff.
