Free Comic Book Day Comes To Concord, Pinole
Over 2,000 stores around the country will take part in Free Comic Book Day on Saturday. Here's where to celebrate in Contra Costa County.
CONCORD, CA β Flying Colors Comics & Other Cool Stuff, a comic book shop in Concord, is participating in Free Comic Book Day on Saturday.
In fact, Flying Colors is owned and operated by Joe Field, the founder of Free Comic Book Day.
Over 2,000 stores around the country now take part in the event, which is intended to promote comics and attract new readers to independent comic book stores across North America.

This is the 20th anniversary of the national event, which began in 2002 on the day after the release of the first βSpider-Manβ film. It is held annually on the first Saturday of May, typically on the same weekend as the release of a major film based on a Marvel comic.
This yearβs Free Comic Book Day takes place the same weekend as the release of the latest Marvel superhero film, βDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.β

As the name implies, stores will give away comic books to shoppers on Saturday. Around 50 comic books will be free of charge. Click here for a complete list.
The comics are categorized into βgoldβ and βsilverβ categories. βGoldβ comics include βDoctor Who,β and βStranger Things Resident Alien,β while βAvengers X-Menβ and βThe Guardian of Fukushimaβ are among the βsilverβ comics.
Individual stores may limit how many free comics each person may pick from each category. Each store may also have additional giveaways for the special occasion. Check with your location for details.

Comic Cards Etc., at 1063C San Pablo Ave. in Pinole, is also taking part in Free Comic Book Day.
