High School Congressional Art Competition Open To Concord Students

The winning piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol and the winner will be invited to Washington D.C. for a reception.

CONCORD, CA — U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, announced Tuesday he will host the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for high school artists in California’s 10th Congressional District.

Now through April 5, students may submit their original artwork virtually to the congressman's office. The winning piece will be selected by a panel of local judges and announced at a reception to celebrate all participants following the submission deadline.

"Every year I am so impressed by the talent of the students in our district who participate in the Congressional Art Competition," DeSaulnier said. "I am pleased to again host this event as an opportunity for young artists to showcase and be recognized for their creativity."

The only requisite for participants is that they must attend high school and live in DeSaulnier's district, which encompasses many cities in Contra Costa County, including Alamo, Brentwood, Byron, Clayton, Concord, Danville, Dublin, Lafayette, Moraga, Oakley, Orinda, Pacheco, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon and Walnut Creek. Last year's winner for the 10th Congressional District was Jazlyn Xiao, a sophomore at Campolindo High School in Moraga, for her colored pencil work, "The Future in My Hands."

All submissions for the 2024 competition must be emailed to Kaylee.deland@mail.house.gov no later than 5 p.m. Pacific Time on April 5.

The nationwide high school visual art competition recognizes and encourages artistic talent in the nation and within each congressional district.
