Parking Lot Expansion Begins

The parking lot should be done by the time school is back in session.

By the time school is back in session, picking up and dropping off students at should be a lot easier.

Construction began this week on expansion of the parking lot at the Community Park. One hundred parking spots will be added parallel to Marsh Creek Road and they will connect with Gym Court.

City Manager Gary Napper said the expansion is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.

Diablo View has about 700 students and the main parking lot gets congested, .

The money for the parking lot expansion came from Measure WW, which was approved by voters in 2008 and is a local grant program administered by the East Bay Regional Parks District.

Earlier this year, the project appeared to be in jeopardy after the Mount Diablo Unified School District initially refused to allow the project to move forward.

The refusal, according to Clayton officials, was because of an unrelated issue concerning custodial fees at the Clayton Community Gym on Diablo View's campus.

But after talks with the school district, the board approved the project.
