• Concord Son Arrested In New Year’s Eve Slaying Of Parents: Report (patch.com) — Concord residents are reeling after an 85-year-old woman and her 90-year-old husband were found fatally shot in their Walnut Avenue home on New Year’s Eve, with their son arrested at the scene. Prosecutors say the 61-year-old suspect, who has a documented history of mental illness and past restraining orders, allegedly confessed and now faces a potential sentence of 50 years to life if convicted.

• Oakland fashion designer charged with human trafficking over 4 years (eastbaytimes.com) — Concord is one of several cities where a woman says she was sent for sex work over four years in a trafficking case tied to an Oakland fashion designer. Authorities allege the victim earned about $240,000 that was taken from her, and the defendant faces human trafficking, pimping, and pandering charges while awaiting a late-January court date.
