Victims Identified In Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Near Antioch
The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office identified two drivers who collided head-on and died.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Two drivers died in a wrong-way, head-on collision early Saturday morning near Antioch, the California Highway Patrol said.
The drivers were identified Monday by the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office as Christopher Cannedy, 35, of Antioch and Andres Hernandez, 22, of Oakley.
Both men were driving alone in their cars — Hernandez was in a blue Scion TC coupe, Cannedy was in a black Mazda 3 sedan— when they collided shortly before 4:30 a.m. on eastbound state Highway 4, west of Lone Tree Way.

The CHP's preliminary investigation indicated Hernandez was traveling westbound in the Scion —the wrong way— in the eastbound lanes.
Canndey was driving the Mazda eastbound at the same time and location and the two cars collided head-on.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision prompted the closure of all freeway lanes until 7:12 a.m. Saturday.
The CHP was still investigating the crash and did not yet know whether drugs or alcohol held a role.
