📰 News we're reading

• What role does the new minute play in solving the sewage crisis? (thecoronadonews.com) — Coronado city leaders are pushing the federal government to add real enforcement teeth to the US‑Mexico‑Canada Agreement so Mexico faces penalties when sewage fouls South Bay and Coronado beaches. Their November letter coincides with a new U.S.–Mexico Minute 333 agreement that accelerates sewage-treatment projects in Tijuana but still leaves questions about long-term accountability and preventing future failures.

• Del Mar bans Styrofoam coolers, noncompostable utensils (inewsource.org) — Del Mar has joined Coronado and other coastal cities in tightening bans on Styrofoam and noncompostable utensils, aiming to keep plastic out of local beaches and waterways. The new rules, modeled partly on neighboring cities’ policies, emphasize education-first enforcement while giving businesses a six‑month grace period to switch to reusable or compostable foodware.

• 'Prepare To Be Disappointed': Fans React As NASCAR Announces Date and Time for Its New Championship Format for the 2026 Season (collegefootballnetwork.com) — NASCAR’s 2026 Cup Series schedule now includes a June 21 race at San Diego’s Naval Base Coronado, putting a major national event right in Coronado’s backyard. The league will also unveil a revamped championship format in a January 12 livestream, following years of fan backlash over the current playoff system.
